Zimbabwe Renewable Energy Procurement Technical Project

A World Bank–funded regional project with backing from the International Development Association (IDA), jointly implemented with IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority on Development). 

This project goal is to build climate resilience in drought-prone borderlands of the Horn of Africa—specifically Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia, with plans for expansion to Djibouti and South Sudan

Zimbabwe Renewable Energy Procurement Technical Project

Zimbabwe Renewable Energy Procurement Technical Project

 Designed to support Zimbabwe in expanding renewable energy in its power mix. It aims to:

  • Develop an integrated resource plan,
  • Conduct wind resource assessments for wind power generation,
  • Strengthen regulatory frameworks (including tariff methodologies and accounting systems),
  • Coordinate with regional interconnectors,
  • And design energy efficiency programs within the public sector

Guinea-Bissau Agriculture & Rural Development Project

This project aimed to:

  • rehabilitate farmland (2,500 ha of swamp/mangrove) for rice cultivation,
  • Develop 200 ha of small market gardens for women,
  • Provide improved seeds, fertilizers, infrastructure upgrades (market roads, storage facilities),
  • Support livestock promotion,
  • Provide training to agricultural personnel and producer groups

It targeted an estimated 600,000 inhabitants in regions like Cacheu, Oio, Bafata, Gabu, and Biombo, prioritizing vulnerable rural families, especially women.

Nigeria Distributed Access through Renewable Energy

 The DARES project is a landmark initiative aimed at drastically expanding access to clean, off-grid electricity in Nigeria. Provide new or improved electricity to 17.5 million Nigerians, with special attention to underserved and rural areas
